The discussion considered creating a new ordinance that would identify and monitor abandoned or under foreclosure properties.
The April 15 Public Health and Safety Committee discussed creating local regulations to identify and monitor abandoned properties and those under foreclosure. The discussion came from an observation shared at a previous committee meeting, in which Upper Moreland resident Nick Scull. Scull shared that he had reported to police his suspicions of vandalism of an abandoned property. He said that the property, located along the 500 block of Davisville Road in Willow Grove, and directly across from his home, is up for a sheriff’s sale in a few months. The following alert was released by the Upper Moreland Police Department via nixle.com: Upper Moreland Township and surrounding townships have experienced a recent surge in daytime residential burglaries. Streets in Upper Moreland where burglaries have occurred include; Terwood Rd., Davisville Rd., Pioneer Rd., Fitzwatertown Rd., and Byberry Rd. The burglars knock on the front door and if someone answers they make up a story about why they are there. If nobody answers, they go around to the back of the house and force entry. A white male robbed a home in the 1900 block of Terwood Road yesterday.
The following statement was released by the Upper Moreland Police Department: A daytime residential burglary occurred in the 1900 block of Terwood Rd. on 8/27/12. A neighbor observed a white male get out of a tan sedan, which he backed into the driveway, and walk around the back of the house at around noon. Please call 911 if you see suspicious activity. Lt. According to a phillyburbs.com article, Tyrie Miller, 27, of the 2500 block of Maryland Road in Upper Moreland pleaded guilty to burglary charges in Abington and in East Norriton. According to the news report, the Abington burglary took place between Sept. 7 and Sept. 16, in which Miller is reported, in the criminal complaint, to have forced open the lock on his mother’s bedroom door, and stole items from her jewelry chest. The report continues to say that police then went to a local precious metals dealer, where Miller was found to have sold women’s jewelry, which Miller’s mother later identified as her own. With summer now in full swing, many Upper Moreland residents are preparing to embark on their annual vacations. Abington Police release the names of two of the three burglary suspects who crashed into a tree and two poles early Sunday morning.
One of the three men involved in an early Sunday morning crash following an alleged burglary in the Willow Grove section of Abington was arraigned at bedside in Abington Memorial Hospital yesterday, according to police. Randolph Nolan Trinidad, 19, of North Carlisle Street, Philadelphia, was arraigned by District Justice John Kessler; his bail was set at $100,000. The driver of the car, Robert Matthew Carroll, 24, of Bayard Street, Philadelphia, was “medically unable to be arraigned” but remains under police guard at the hospital, according to an Abington Police press release. Upper Moreland father and son team arrested for burglaries in Abington.
Abington police arrested what appeared to be a father-son duo for their alleged role in a Sept. 6 burglary in Rydal. Jason Gentile Jr., 18; and Jason Gentile Sr., 38, both of the 400 block of Bartram Road, Upper Moreland, were arrested Tuesday at about 12:40 a.m. after residents in a home in the 900 block of Susquehanna Road called police after they heard an intruder, Abington Deputy Chief John Livingood said today. “The residents heard a noise, woke up and called 911 immediately,” Livingood said. “We got there quickly, and [the suspects] were arrested in the act.” When officers arrived on the scene, they found a green Jeep Laredo parked behind the home with its engine running.
