January's shaping up as a volatile month in the weather realm. Temperature roller coasters, soaking rains, and more seem to be the theme of the coming month's weather.
There's quite a lot in the weather realm that's being made of the potential for a pattern flip later on this week. In some respects, the pattern this winter changed about two weeks ago from a generally mild pattern to one with wild oscillations of warmth and chill. November in December, which was how the weather felt for much of the month, was replaced by alternating shots of cold and warmth - a theme that's continued into early January. We went from the freezer on Tuesday and Wednesday to people wearing shorts this past Saturday as temperatures jumped into the middle 60s.
