EASTERN Honors Student of Month for Achievements, Excellence

Abigail Applebaum is March's Student of the Month at EASTERN for her work in the Culinary Arts program.

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology has announced its Student of the Month for March is Abigail Applebaum. The Springfield High School senior is in her second year of EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program. Abigail maintains high grades and is actively involved in SkillsUSA as the 2012-13 as the school-wide Vice President. SkillsUSA promotes good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork and recognizes student achievement and excellence. She recently was a student presenter at Springfield for EASTERN’s 10th Grade Career Expo presentation, in which she discussed the specifics of her Culinary Arts program. EASTERN Grad Learning What it Takes After Trip to Florida

Bryan Neuhauser took a trip to Florida as part of the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College.

Bryan Neuhauser wasn’t always interested in Culinary Arts and the Hospitality Industry. The former Lower Moreland resident and EASTERN grad wasn’t really sure what kind of career he wanted to pursue, but he sure is glad in the decision he made. In his second year of his three-year Bachelor’s program at the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College, Neuhauser recently returned from a trip to Florida designed to show the students real world examples of leaders in the hospitality management industry. EASTERN Student Raises $2K in Buffet Style Dinner

EASTERN's William Currier served up roasted pork loin, pistachio crusted salmon, chicken roulade and more last Thursday night.

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology student William Currie knew he was interested in culinary arts from a very young age. Growing up as a member of the Boy Scouts, Currie started cooking as early as fifth grade trying to turn typical campfire food into something more exquisite. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 48, he got to know Chef Gary Albert, EASTERN’s Culinary Arts instructor. Together, the two hosted a dinner at EASTERN’s Terwood Road campus last Thursday to help raise funds for supplies Currie needs to complete his Eagle Scout project. Currie will take on the mission in helping to repair the roof and replacing the rotting lumber on a pavilion at Camp Discovery, which he attended as a child. EASTERN Alum Spotlight: Tymere Davis, Culinary Arts

While Tymere Davis was a Culinary Arts student at EASTERN, he was recognized with the Shawn and Roger Graham Hospital Award at EASTERN’s Awards Night ceremony in May 2012.

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2012 Culinary Arts/Upper Dublin High School graduate, Tymere Davis, recently completed his first semester at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Associate Degree program. After completion of his MCCC program, Davis will pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Temple University on a partial scholarship for Track and Field. As a child, Davis became interested in cooking largely due to the great cooks in his family. In tenth grade, a friend of Davis’s made him aware of the Culinary Arts program at EASTERN. Davis wanted to learn different techniques and cooking styles, and was interested in a more specific type of education…

Eastern Alumni Spotlight: Taylor Landon

Being able to pursue her passion in cooking, led Taylor to a recipe for success.

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2010 Culinary Arts/Cheltenham High School graduate, Taylor Landon, is currently completing her Associate Degree in Hospitality Management at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC). After graduation from MCCC in May, she plans to pursue her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Hospitality Management at Temple University. Landon enjoyed her cooking classes in middle school, so her mother enrolled her in EASTERN’s Summer Fun Cooking and Baking program.Throughout high school, she participated in all of the cooking classes that Cheltenham offered, and then decided to enroll in EASTERN’s Culinary Arts programs as a junior.
