Students not meeting the PA Health Department’s immunization requirements by May 1 will be barred from entering their school.
Upper Moreland School District superintendent Dr. Robert Milrod gave both an impassioned plea and a stern warning to the parents and guardians of the remaining 200 students who are yet to fulfill their Pennsylvania Department of Health’s immunization requirements. Milrod dedicated his superintendent’s report at last night’s Regular School Board Meeting to explain that Upper Moreland School District will follow the state mandate of excluding non-compliant students from school on and after the May 1 deadline. “It’s just around the corner,” Milrod said. As reported previously, the vaccinations required are: Milrod said that the requirements have been well publicized, highlighting several news reports, as well as the numerous internal school …

The Upper Moreland School Board further discussed how the district’s high school students can be set on a path to an Associate’s Degree from Montgomery County Community College.
During the March 6 Programs and Services Committee meeting of the Upper Moreland School Board, the district’s superintendent Dr. Robert Milrod further discussed the potential partnership between Upper Moreland High School (UMHS) and Montgomery County Community College (MCCC). Milrod first brought up the partnership at last month’s committee meeting, in which he presented an opportunity for the district’s high school students to take MCCC credited classes and potentially graduate with an Associate’s degree. “Dual enrollment is not anything new,” Milrod said. “What’s different is the scope.” According to Milrod, the UMHS and MCCC partnership would allow many of the district’s high school students to take college-credited courses. During the …

Upper Moreland High School may partner with Montgomery County Community College.
A potential partnership with Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) may mean Upper Moreland High School (UMHS) students can one day graduate with an Associate’s degree from the college - while still in high school. “This is a big deal,” Dr. Robert Milrod, Upper Moreland School District superintendent said. Milrod described the potential partnership in a presentation to the Feb. 7 Programs and Services Committee of the Upper Moreland School Board. Milrod said, he, along with the school district’s director of education and an administrative team from the high school, met with administrative members of MCCC last month. During that meeting, it was discussed how UMHS students could opt for dual enrollment at the college. Students would have…

The lengthy memo clearly outlines the intentions of the proposed district-wide activities fee.
The superintendent of Upper Moreland School District, Dr. Robert Milrod, sent out an open memo to the community yesterday, further explaining the proposed activities fee. As reported in Patch at previous school board public committee meetings, the memo emphasizes that funds collected from the activity fee will be exclusively for Upper Moreland middle and high school students participating in sports and marching band co-curricular activities. Milrod writes that such funds would have a specific focus: “The main focus of the activity fee is to provide additional, necessary funding for the purpose of purchasing new equipment and new uniforms as needed, and to help offset transportation costs to competitions that are fifty or more miles away.” …

Upper Moreland can expect bigger class sizes in the fall.
With Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed budget cuts reducing state funding for public education, Montgomery County school districts have been forced to re-examine their own budgets and find new solutions to make up for lost funding. We've already shown you how the Colonial School District came up with its 2011-2012 budget, but here is a rundown on how the other school districts in the county have handled the economic times. Upper Dublin School District Upper Dublin School District thought outside of the box to balance their budget. The school board asked staff members for voluntary contributions to make up for the lost funding. The entire administration staff is donating $1,000 from their paycheck while about 90 percent of the support staff is …

Jennifer, the alternative is to cut programs. As Dr. Milrod stated at last nights meeting, the money is not there for uniforms and equipment, if the money does not come in then the uniforms and equipment cannot be purchased and which programs would you cut? Also the activity fee is just a proposal, if someone or the committee comes up with an idea to raise the necessary funds then the activity …   more ›
