Local students were treated to hear industry expert Geno Stampora speak on making it in the cosmetology field.
Earlier this week students at the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology got the chance to learn from an expert. Students in the Cosmetology program, including one from Upper Moreland High School, got to hear Geno Stampora speak and lend his expert advise on being a beauty professional. Stampora is a motivational speaker, and a role model and coach who has given many presentations to up-and-coming students who want to pursue a career in the industry. “This was a great opportunity for our students to hear from a very successful professional in the field, who started from exactly where they are today, learning all aspects of the field in their Cosmetology program and gaining hours in order to take their Pennsylvania State Boards for …

EASTERN will institute an Office Management program that will teach students the necessary skills for today's business environment.
For the first time in a decade, the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology will unveil its first new program. EASTERN will institute an Office Management program that will be available for the 2013-14 school year. It will serve to prepare students for careers in professional office management. The program will provide a computer, office equipment proficiency and organizational skills necessary to succeed in today’s business environment. “EASTERN’s Office Management program can help students prepare for a rewarding career in a school, hospital, government or corporate office, and/or give you a head start on a college degree in business,” said Thomas Allen, EASTERN’s Administration Director. “Trained administrative professionals are needed …

As part of EASTERN’s Cosmetology program, some students are hosting clinics in an effort for a fundraiser.
Erika Rambo has been donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on a regular basis ever since her uncle passed away at the age of 40 after suffering from Leukemia. Now the high school senior will get to give back and do what she’s passionate about as she tries to pursue her career in cosmetology. Rambo will hold a cosmetology clinic on Saturday, April 6 at EASTERN’s Terwood Road campus. It is open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “Running this clinic is the ideal way for me to raise money for a great cause while also getting the opportunity to practice what I love to do.” Erika said. A Philabundance representative visited EASTERN this week to collect a donation check for $722.32
Throughout the year students at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology have helped raise money for Feeding America/Philabundance. This week local officers from SkillsUSA, EASTERN’s student leadership organization, presented a check to a Philabundance representative at the school for over $700. The check was presented to Evan Post, who said the money would equate to 1,500 meals for those in need around the area. SkillsUSA chooses a community service project each year in which all Pennsylvania chapters can participate. This year’s initiative was Feeding America, which is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity. Students conducted raffles at their Leadership Conference in November, and also participated in a “Coin War” in October …

Local student Brittney Maurer will host 'Cuts for a Cure' at EASTERN where she will cut hair, style nails and much more.
EASTERN student Brittney Maurer loves cosmetology and helping other people out. Now she will get to accomplish both of those things. Maurer, as part of her senior project, chose to host a cosmetology clinic that will be open to the public on Saturday, March 23, at EASTERN’s Terwood Road campus, 3075 Terwood Road. Her services include everything from a shampoo and blo-dry to hair highlights, nail service and skin care. All of the proceeds will benefit Abington Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Center. Abigail Applebaum is March's Student of the Month at EASTERN for her work in the Culinary Arts program.
Eastern Center for Arts and Technology has announced its Student of the Month for March is Abigail Applebaum. The Springfield High School senior is in her second year of EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program. Abigail maintains high grades and is actively involved in SkillsUSA as the 2012-13 as the school-wide Vice President. SkillsUSA promotes good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork and recognizes student achievement and excellence. She recently was a student presenter at Springfield for EASTERN’s 10th Grade Career Expo presentation, in which she discussed the specifics of her Culinary Arts program. Bryan Neuhauser wasn’t always interested in Culinary Arts and the Hospitality Industry. The former Lower Moreland resident and EASTERN grad wasn’t really sure what kind of career he wanted to pursue, but he sure is glad in the decision he made. In his second year of his three-year Bachelor’s program at the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College, Neuhauser recently returned from a trip to Florida designed to show the students real world examples of leaders in the hospitality management industry.
