A final decision on discontinuing the route will be made April 26
SEPTA held a public hearing on Thursday afternoon to discuss the possible discontinuation of bus route #134, which runs from Chestnut Hill to the Montgomery Mall. Montgomery County has subsidized the route since 1994, but the county’s 2012 operating budget has discontinued the subsidy and SEPTA does not have enough funds to continue operating the route, SEPTA representative John Calnan said. Calnan added that there have “been no successful attempts” to get money from the county to continue the route, and SEPTA did try working with the county to make the route work in their budget. Leo Bagley of the Montgomery County Planning Commission said the county hopes to continue to work with SEPTA and the county understands the importance of public …

Easy, yummy and they'll score a TD with guests at your Supper Bowl party.
Super Bowl countdown: 4 weeks to go. Are you hosting a party? Or just watching the big game at home? These yummy, easy calzones are a great game dish. Filled with delicious pork and seasoned with smoked paprika (definitely get the smoked, don’t just use regular paprika). Once cooled from the oven, they can be finger foods. I use the Pillsbury pizza dough from the dairy aisle instead of a whole pound of dough. The smaller amount is great for just two calzones (which is what I’m usually making). You can find all of these ingredients at your local Giant. Ingredients Directions

Want and easy way to make homemade chicken pot pie? Try a warm mug of chicken mug pie!
Chicken potpie warms you from the inside out. But unless you want to mess with pastry dough and have a bunch of ramekins around, it’s difficult to make. However, chicken mug pies are easier and just as yummy. This recipe has everything you would find in standard chicken potpie (don’t panic when you look at the ingredients list!). This makes enough for four mugs and you’ll still have leftovers (however, Pillsbury biscuits come in eight to a tube, and everything reheats well, so it’s OK). I love that more and more grocery stores are selling pre-cut veggies for cooking. It makes preparing veggies much easier, and I don’t waste as much, especially with celery, which I don’t use as often. You can get all of these ingredients at Giant. …

This was delicious and tasted just like Chinese take-out (without the cost and the wait time). I served this with a side of edemame (yum!). This would also taste lovely with chicken in it. Cut chicken breast into thin strips on the bias and coat with corn starch. Saute in canola oil until chicken is cooked through. You can find all the ingredients you need for this recipe at Giant. Here's a recipe just in time for the long, cold nights ahead.
On a cold night there is nothing better than hot soup, especially fresh soup made with love. Some of my favorites include Chicken Noodle, Potato Leek, and Loaded Potato Soup. They’re delicious and warm you from the inside out. This recipe is pretty easy, with ingredients that can be picked up at any grocery store, well except the beer. I like that many grocery stores today have pre-cute veggies, which cut down on prep time. We had a lot of soup left over from this recipe, but it reheated wonderfully for lunch the next day, so make a lot and spoil yourself at lunchtime! You can find these ingredients at Giant. Ingredients Directions 1. In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter. 2. Add the onion, carrot, celery, garlic, …

Patch editors from throughout Montgomery County helped restore nearly 100 flood-damaged trees at the Trust during Patch's community service Give 5 program.
As part of Patch's commitment to community service, Patch editors from throughout Montgomery County travelled to Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust, for a day of service. Patch calls its community service program, "Give 5," as in the editors spent over five hours at the Trust, pulling invasive porcelean berry vines from trees and straigtening nearly 100 saplings that were damaged by recent flooding. Most of the editors were astonished at how quickly the service opportunity went, and how much fun they had working in the woods. "I may not want to return to the land of technology," David Powell, Patch Montgomery County associate regional editor, said. --- For the full story, please click on the above video.

Meatballs how you want them, when you want them.
Spaghetti and meatballs—it's one of those dishes that many restaurants can make, but I’ve never found a version that I like, and frozen meatballs can be touchy when cooking. So, why not make your own, especially when you can make a whole bunch and freeze them for when you need them? (That’s right, make ‘em now while you have the time, freeze them, and cook them when you want meatballs and DON’T have them time.) These are delicious, moist and yummy. They pair well with pasta sauce and would even be good on a meatball sub. All of these ingredients can be purchased at Giant. Ingredients Directions 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees 2. Combine breadcrumbs and milk in small bowl, and mix until well incorporated. 3. Mix ground beef with …

Great for dinner, brunch or just with home fries.
I have been trying to make a Spanish omelet since traveling to Spain, to no avail. Not because I can’t find recipes, but because the recipes I have found are ridiculously large and either the bottom burns before the top cooks, or I have an eggy mess all over my kitchen when trying to flip it. However, this is the closest recipe that I have come across that somewhat replicates it. I also found that the Berks brand of meats sells pre-diced ham (as I'm sure other brands do), which made prep for this recipe so much easier! This is a great recipe for dinner (great with roasted potatoes or salad, or both) or for brunch, served with home fries. This is perfect for two to three and can be easily increased for more diners. All the ingredients can …

Pair these perfect summer to-go snacks and a cool summer drink.
Sometime in the spring, my coffee tastes veer from hot coffee (preferably a latte) to iced coffee (iced white chocolate mocha = yum!). I also start spending more and more time outside the house, so snacks that are individually packaged and ready to go are best. My grandmom’s whoopie pie recipe, a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch recipe, is perfect for summer (and all year round, really). They’re sweet and filling. I wrap mine individually in plastic wrap so they don’t stick together, but also so they are good on the go. I use my cookie scoop to make the cookies. That way, they are almost all the same size. My iced coffee recipe has been something I have been practicing and perfecting for over a year now, and I think I’ve got it perfect. (I …

Served cold or hot, this dish is delicious.
I love leftovers, especially ones that don’t necessarily require heating up. I also love simple, easy-to-follow recipes—and this one barely needs the stove. I love this dish cold, especially the next day after all the flavors have had the night to combine. However, I know people who prefer this dish warmed, with the cheese melty and the pasta hot. Either way, it makes a delicious meal when its too hot to cook, or it can be a fast, delicious pasta salad at your next picnic or barbecue. You can find all of the ingredients you need at Giant Food Store. Ingredients: Directions: 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat, add the pasta, and cook, stirring occasionally, until al dente. Drain. 2. Combine oregano, garlic and …

I definitely agree! I'm not much of a cook, but this recipe looks easy, and it's starting to get really cold out now.   more ›
