Willow Grove Fire Company Will Name New Chief

Brian Focht will take over for Lee Perlmutter as the new Chief. The announcement will be made tonight.

There will be a changing of the guard at the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire Company starting tonight. Chief Lee Perlmutter will be stepping down as Chief and will turn his duties over to Brian Focht, who currently serves as Assistant Chief. Perlmutter will stay onboard with the company and assume the duties of the Deputy Chief. That announcement will officially be made at tonight’s monthly meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. Perlmutter has served as Chief for the last 10 years and has been part of the Willow Grove Fire Company for over 30 years stemming back to 1970. “We’ve been officers together for years,” Perlmutter said about him and Focht. “At one time, due to family obligations, (Focht) had stepped back. Safeguarding Those Who Keep Us Safe

During International Fire/EMS Safety and Health Week, Willow Grove Fire Company reviewed strategies, technology and lessons that will keep them alive, so they could do the same for others.

Everyone Goes Home (widely known as 'The Fire Fighter’s Credo') From June 17 – 23, the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire Company (WGVFC) joined fellow firefighters around the world in recognition of International Fire/EMS Safety and Health Week. According to the event’s website (safetyandhealthweek.org), the week is a joint initiative of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the National Volunteer Fire Council. It is an event that focuses on safety, health training and education for all emergency responders. This year’s theme, “Rules You Can Live By,” focused on the rules of engagement for firefighting, as well as firefighting safety, survival and health. “The goal of all fire chiefs and officers is to ensure the firefighters operate …

First Responders Profile: Perlmutter's Passion for Firefighting Still Burns Bright

Fire Chief Lee Perlmutter a 40-year life member with 32 years at chief rank, attributes his long career to the firehouse’s atmosphere of family and brotherhood.

Hobbies tend to bring out passion within people. However, when talking about one of the most dangerous hobbies out there, Fire Chief Lee Perlmutter cannot hide his burning passion for firefighting. “Firefighting is the only hobby where you could lose your life or save someone else’s life,” Perlmutter said. “Imagine jumping into [a] building with 200 to 400 degree heat, and, on top of that, imagine doing it for free.” Every member of the Willow Grove Fire Company volunteers his or her time and energy to keep neighborhoods safe 365 days a year and Perlmutter is no exception.
