Electronics Can Be Disposed of in One Montco Location

Don't curbside that television. Take it to Cheltenham.

Since an official ban on electronic disposal in Montgomery County earlier this year, residents of the county cannot just dump items in the trash. Leaving a television, for example, curbside won't help you. The garbage man can't take it away. Instead, you are asked to visit occasional drop-off days in various locations. The county suggests you stop by one convenient to your home.  However, many homeowners might be too anxious to wait. Then what? Where can you dispose of electronics in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania? One spot can help. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), there is only one place that can. Cheltenham Township  Cheltenham Township Public Works Facility 8101 Old York Rd. Elkins Park, PA …

Don't Trash Your Old Computers and TVs, Recycle Electronics Locally

TVs and computers can no longer be picked up at curbside trash collections under the Covered Device Recycling Act.

Are you still wondering what to do with your old TV or computer that you replaced recently? There are many options for disposal, but trash collection isn't one of them. TVs and computers can no longer be picked up at curbside trash collections under the Covered Device Recycling Act, which went into effect at the end of last month. "Covered devices" include desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals and televisions, the act states. Since landfills and other solid waste disposal facilities in Pennsylvania will no longer be allowed to accept covered devices, the Act requires that these devices be recycled. If you have unwanted electronics, the closest location for recycling is the Best Buy on Easton Road in Willow …

In recognition of America Recycles Day, Patch and Metra4.com took a trip to Waste Management's processing plant located off the Cottman Ave. exit of I-95. Commissioners Discuss Trash Salvaging in Upper Moreland

While not considered rampant, the Community Development Committee reviewed the township’s policy on individuals taking waste and recyclables for profit.

At the May 14 Community Development Committee, Willow Grove resident Nick Scull described an all-too-familiar scene. According to Scull, after acquiring the proper permits to place his electronic recyclable for the township’s recycling pickup, he had some trouble keeping his recycling on his property. “At four-O’clock I heard some noise and here’s a guy who’s loading my computer into his truck,” Scull recounted before the committee. “And, I’m thinking, I paid 20 bucks for a permit for this, because I don’t want it to end up in a landfill, and I wanted to make sure that it gets recycled properly.” Scull went on to explain to the individual, while he didn’t want to deprive him of his income, Scull also didn’t want his electronic recyclables …

Recycling and Class Size Discussed at School Board Policy Committee

The July 28 School Board Policy Committee meeting explored the district's recycling process and talked about not limiting class sizes.

A meeting of the Upper Moreland School board’s Policy Committee took place after the special action meeting of the school board July 23. Policy 132, “Recycling and Waste Reduction,” was discussed. The policy, which was last reviewed in 2003, was read at last week’s committee meeting. According to Upper Moreland School District superintendent Dr. Robert Milrod, each school has designated bins used for recycling. He said that students, as part of an environmental club and in accordance with the policy's teaching conservation, come and take the recyclables away. The school district then pays for private companies to take the recyclables from the district. Chairman of the committee Mark Wenik pointed out that the policy states such …
