Second Alarmer's Rescue Squad Honored at Ceremony

The Rescue Squad in Willow Grove were recognized for outstanding community service.

The 2012 Pennsylvania State EMS Awards were held on Monday, November 19th at the Radisson Harrisburg Hotel and Conference Center in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. These annual awards recognize individuals and organizations that have provided outstanding community service as part of Pennsylvania’s emergency medical services system. The awards ceremony is presented by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS and the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council. This award honors a large volume EMS agency for their contribution to the development and growth of quality prehospital care within their community by demonstrating a consistent pattern of timely care delivery, working cooperatively with surrounding EMS agencies, and by …

Rescue Dogs Help Find Missing Persons

Two K9's - Bonnie and Ranger - were able to successfully locate a missing elderly man.

It’s all about helping people.  The members of the Second Alarmer’s Search and Rescue Team are all volunteers and are also members of Second Alarmer's Rescue Squad (SARS). The primary function of SARS, whose main station is on Davisville Road in the Willow Grove section of Upper Moreland, is to provide Emergency Medical Services to Upper Moreland, Abington, Hatboro, Jenkintown, Whitpain and the surrounding communities. SARS also has multiple sub units like the Search and Rescue Team including a K9 Search Team. The Search and Rescue Team is made up of 10 members and five in- service search dogs and two puppies in training which will very soon be in-service. “We are certified by the Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Council,” said Colton Marsh…

The Future of EMS in Montco

Youth in Second Alarmer's Rescue Squad's Venture Crew 380 have the opportunity for first-hand experience in saving lives.

The Venture Crew 380 is one of the most prominent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Venture Scout groups in the Greater Philadelphia area. A Venture Scout group is the teenage program of the Boys Scouts of America. In this program, high school-aged coed youth groups work with adult leaders to learn more about their specialized expertise, from Ham Radio operations to police work. Venture Crew 380 works with the EMS organization the Second Alarmer’s Rescue Squad (SARS). The Second Alarmer’s Rescue Squad is one of the largest, nonprofit, EMS providers in Montgomery County, serving from Abington to Whitpain townships and beyond.
