Typical February Weather Ahead

After a near miss on snow this past Friday night, Monday rains will wash away what little is left on the ground, leaving a "typical" temperature pattern for mid-February for the rest of the week.

Friday's near miss storm was literally that ― we were about 50 miles away from getting several additional inches of snow in your backyard as many areas of northern New Jersey and coastal areas of central New Jersey ended up getting ten or more inches of snow. Locally, anywhere from trace amounts to six inches fell from Chester County to Bucks, with the city getting anywhere from a few tenths of an inch at the naval yards to nearly five inches in the Northeast. Most of that snow washes away with Monday's rains moving through, some of which will be steady if not heavy for a time. We'll probably get a half to full inch of rain in the region, with the bulk of it falling in the morning. Some drizzle lingers into the afternoon. The balance of …

Weather Service Downgrades Snow Predictions in Montgomery County

County is now under a 'winter weather advisory' and not a 'winter storm warning.'

The area of Montgomery County will now likely get less snow than originally predicted. The National Weather Service has reduced the area's warning down to a "Winter Weather Advisory." Last night, the NWS issued a Winter Storm Warning, declaring that four to eight inches of snow were expected for the county. However, today's forecast lessened the report to a now-expected one to two inches. "Accumulations of snow of one to at most four inches are expected," according to the latest advisory. The newest information from the NWS, located in Mount Holly, N.J., says that travel may still be possible now. "A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties," said the advisory. "Be prepared …

Public Works Preparing to Work Through the Night with Snow Expected

In anticipation of snow hitting the Willow Grove area, the Upper Moreland Public Works Department has plow trucks ready to go.

The Upper Moreland Public Works Department is preparing for inclement weather and members will stay well past their shift times are over in anticipation of the snow. The National Weather Service has called for anywhere from three inches to a foot of snow in Montgomery and Bucks counties, and Public Works will have a “pre-standby” to make sure the roads are in good conditions later this evening. "Basically we’re getting all of our trucks ready,” Upper Moreland Public Works Director John Primus told Patch. “We have about 20 trucks and we’re making sure the plows are ready to go. “Were going to have pre-standby. We’ll be working all night. We won’t be going home after our normal shifts,” Primus added. The township has asked residents to move …

Willow Grove Expected to Get 3 to 7 Inches of Snow

Latest forecast for Willow Grove greatly increased the amount of snow predicted in this weekend's winter storm.

Inclement weather could bring 3 to 7 inches of snow to the Willow Grove area Friday and Saturday. The lastest forecast from the National Weather Service predicts little accumlation Friday morning, but 3 to 7 inches overnight. That is a radical change from Thursday's forecast, which predicted far less snow for Montgomery and Bucks counties. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for southeast Pennsylvania, including the Willow Grove area at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday. In that bulletin, forecasters predicted 4 to 10 inches of snow, with a trace of ice. Are you prepared for the worst, or will it blow over?

WEATHER: Rain and Roller Coaster Temperatures Ahead

From winter to soaking rain to winter in a few days time. A wild ride of weather ahead this week!

Simply put, this week's weather will have us on a bit of a roller coaster. The recent spell of cold eases out for a couple of days before a second round of cold air pushes in after a soaking rain on Wednesday afternoon and evening. We go from winter to soaker to winter within the course of a week. At least you can't argue that the weather pattern ahead is boring! Monday's precipitation plethora is due to warm air pushing in aloft over the cold air in place at the surface. Temperatures will be slower to warm above freezing the farther north and west you are from the city, with the result being some periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle that could lead to slippery travel for a time during the morning and early afternoon before …

A Week Of Winter Ahead

Winter's making a prolonged appearance this week...and it could snow more than once before the week is out.

The incoming cold regime will bring some rather cold temperatures by Philadelphia standards to our region ― highs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday may not break 30 degrees as we get in the grip of some pretty cold air across the eastern half of the nation.  This cold has been largely in the Great Basin so far this month ― parts of Nevada are running more than twenty degrees below normal!  Temperatures here won't be that cold, but could go down to ten degrees colder than average over the coming week. Along with the incoming cold, light snow and flurries could cross the region later on Monday with a weak clipper and also on Wednesday with a relatively weak disturbance.  Monday's system may be more substantive than Wednesday's but either …
