Millions to Revamp the Middle School

The Upper Moreland School Board approved the issuance of a $5 million bond for middle school improvements.

Upper Moreland Middle School will be getting some upgrades. Earlier this week, the Upper Moreland School Board, at a special action meeting, approved a motion allowing for the issuance of a $5 million bond to make structural improvements to the school. School board president Mark Wenik said the money will first be used to make structural improvements to the building, followed by classroom improvements about two to three years later. “Basically, we’ll improve the structure — the HVAC, electrical, we’ll replace the floor — essentially the bones of the building to make sure they’re solid,” Wenik said. Wenik said the board has been throwing around the idea of revamping the aging school for the past year, but started “fine-tuning” the process …

Two-Phase, $10 Million Remodel Planned for UM Middle School

If approved, students could see changes as early as next year.

Put on your hard hats, kids. It could be a bumpy ride. The Upper Moreland School District will decide in its April meeting whether or not to approve a two-phase construction project to renovate the middle school. The board will need to approve it in order to obtain secure bond funding totalling $10 million by June, according to a report in the Public Spirit. The project will add security, electric and HVAC in Phase One, while it focuses on new security cameras, renovations to the gym, replacement of the auditorium seating and new student lockers and a $700,000 pool renovation in Phase Two, according to the report. For the full story on the proposed changes, visit the Public Spirit's story here.

I'd rather see them finish the high school first. The air conditioning is still not working. The rooms were upward to 90 degrees last week and it wasn't even that hot yet. I hate to see them keep dumping money into the schools if they aren't going to make sure they aren't leaking, that the heat and air work and that the air is safe to breath (mold). Does the school board know that the air …   more ›

Earlier this month, many members of the Upper Moreland community came to out to Upper Moreland high school for the annual art show. Students work populated the art show with sculptures and drawings or photos from the high school’s digital photography class. Hi Gerry, yes back then we were taught to care for our belongings, unlike Today were things are just used and abused. Back then if we lost or broke something they were not replaced untill a birthday or Christmas if asked for. Roller Skates were cheaper then a bike so you always started out with skates. And you kept them in working order at all times or you would have to walk everywhere....   more ›
