The Up and Up in Upper Moreland

Upper Moreland Township finally going to the dogs?

Pat Stasio, Parks and Rec director, is looking to keep the time-line of constructing the township's first dog park on a short leash.

Upper Moreland Township is going to the dogs. At least that's what resident dog owners, community advocates and the township are all hoping will happen, now that a major permit was approved to build the township's first dog park. Talks 0f creating a dog park have been echoing throughout the township for the last eight years. Judy Lamb, an Upper Moreland resident, is part of a civic group called Paw Prints Dog Owners Group (DOG), which  brought the subject of a dog park to the township's attention in 2003. Seniors' social life shines at the Golden Age Club

Upper Moreland's Parks and Recreation Department offers a meeting place for those 55 and older.

In 1980 a group of senior citizens started meeting to play cards.  Eventually the group expanded to include lunches and trips.  This group is now known as the Golden Age Club (GAC). The Golden Age Club is one of Upper Moreland's Parks and Recreation Department programs.  You do not have to live in Upper Moreland to be a part of the club, according to Katie Kollar, Recreations Director for Parks and Recreation. The club has had members from neighboring towns, cities and even from other countries. The only requirements to be in GAC is you have to be 55 years or older and pay an annual fee of $7.  Last year GAC had about 780 members. "It's basically a club for camaraderie and a meeting place for seniors," says Kollar. GAC is more than just a…

The last township committee meeting saw the induction of five houses into the UM Historic Resource Inventory and a proposal to create a new pedestrian trail.

The Upper Moreland Township Board of Commissioners convened for the last time  in 2010 on Dec. 20.
