Singles Invited to Walk, Dinner in UM

Area singles can meet others, enjoy a walk Monday night.

If you are tired of the bar scene, haven't met anyone like your mother said at church or are nervous to date someone at the office, it can be hard to find a nice place to meet folks in person. While many have resorted to online dating as a great way to meet new faces in a very digital world, others prefer meeting someone face-to-face, the "old fashioned" way. To help that along, Outdoor Singles aims to plan area events to allow adults to meet one another. Outdoor Singles will meet at 6 p.m. Mondays, in Deep Meadow Park, 1020 Horsham Road, Horsham. There, participants can enjoy a leisurely walk. The walk is scheduled weekly to be less than a one-mile walk. Those that choose to may enjoy an optional dinner afterward. The Outdoor Singles can …

Police Chief Among Those Getting Sworn-In Monday

The Board of Commissioners will swear-in new officials of the township, including Upper Moreland Police Chief S. Michael Murphy.

[UPDATE] Fire Reported in Upper Moreland Township

A report of a building fire was called into Willow Grove Fire Co. over the weekend.

[Update 4-29-13] According to John Fugelo, Willow Grove Volunteer Fire Co. captain, the reported building fire that occurred on the evening of April 26, at the intersection of Krewson Terrace and Church Street in Willow Grove was not serious in nature. Fugelo stated that the fire originated in a resident's oven in conjunction with a plastic container or substance, but was self-contained. [Original report follows] A building fire was reported at the corner of Krewson Terrace and Church Street, just a block up from York Road in Upper Moreland Township. Average rents in Upper Moreland vary more than $600 per month street-to-street.

If you rent in Upper Moreland Township area, you may be interested to know that your monthly rent might be higher than your neighbors. According to City Data, of the 24,338 residents in the township, 29 percent percent rent. Those 29 percent will find it rather interesting that the township is divided when it comes to what rent can cost per month. 3 Dead, Over 100 Injured in Boston Marathon Explosions

Status of local runners still unclear.

Patch editors in Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusettes are covering the breaking story of the explosions at the Boston Marathon on Monday. Many have been reported injured and possibly killed in the wake of the incident. Authorities are still grappling with the investigation on the scene, but early reports indicate that explosive devices may have been set deliberately. DEA to Host Drug Take-Back in Willow Grove

Sixth annual take-back initiative set for April 27.

If you are seeking a way to safely dispose of medications, the Township is here to help. In conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), there will be a take-back in order to keep the community safe. The sixth annual take-back day is scheduled for April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The DEA has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Upper Moreland Township Police Department will be participating in this initiative, collecting controlled, non-controlled, and over the counter medications at the Giant, 315 N. York Road, Willow Grove. "Liquid products and creams in its containers will be accepted," said an announcement on the Upper Moreland Township website. Upper Moreland Woman Steals from Sister, Gets Probation

UM sister takes cash, bonds, and personal documents from sister.

Sisters are for life, but sometimes "water" is thicker than blood. According to a report in PhillyBurbs, Bethany J. McCurdy, 39, of the 2500 block of Horsham Road, will also have to pay $1,905 in restitution and serve three years of probation as part of the sentence she received last week after pleading guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property. The property, was that of her sister's, also of Upper Moreland. The charges stemmed from a report the sister entered on Sept. 9, 2011 when a "box contain[ing] cash, savings bonds, jewelry, old photographs and personal documents, including Social Security cards and birth certificates belonging to the sister’s family members," said the report. Appeals Board May Be Created in Upper Moreland

The responsibility of the Appeals Board would be to consider petitioners questioning the administration or enforcement of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.

The Upper Moreland Board of Commissioners are considering the creation of a local Board of Appeals whose main responsibility would be to consider petitioners questioning the administration or enforcement of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC). The UCC is the building code adopted by the Township. Qualifications for membership on the proposed Board are listed below: The Board of Appeals would consist of five members, one from each of the following professions or disciplines: If interested in serving on proposed Board, please submit a letter of interest and resume to David A. Democratic Committee Endorses Candidates for Upper Moreland Primary

Wards 1, 3, 5, and 7 in Upper Moreland are currently up for election in the 2013 Primary.

The Upper Moreland Democratic Committee has announced the candidates it wants to endorse for the May primary election. The committee put out a call back in January for openings in Wards 1, 3, 5, and 7. The Democrats of Upper Moreland have formally announced who will potentially fill those openings.
