While gas prices declined in March, oil prices crept higher; both are indicators of an economic recovery, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The national average this week is $3.637 for a gallon, down 2.1 cents from last week. In Bucks and Montgomery Counties, gas prices dropped another 2.6 cents a gallon to an average of $3.625, that’s 27.4 cents lower than last year’s prices. The Pennsylvania average retail price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.653, down 2.1 cents from a week ago. Nearby, the cheapest price for regular is $3.49 at the Hess at Easton Rd (PA-611) & Blair Mill Rd. The Upper Moreland commissioners consider applying for a grant to install new pedestrian signals and a crosswalk.
Upper Moreland Commissioners are seeking a grant to install two new pedestrian signals on the opposite side of York Road between Easton Road and the railroad tracks. Commissioners stated they want to acquire funds through Montgomery County for the Community Development Block Grant program that will hopefully come through in 2014. The project would include installing a decorative crosswalk, adding two new pedestrian signals that would have countdown timers, and push-buttons with black poles. They are hoping to replicate all the work that’s already been completed on the opposite of York Road. Local students were treated to hear industry expert Geno Stampora speak on making it in the cosmetology field.
Earlier this week students at the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology got the chance to learn from an expert. Students in the Cosmetology program, including one from Upper Moreland High School, got to hear Geno Stampora speak and lend his expert advise on being a beauty professional. Many residents have made their opinions known on whether or not they support the 'Super' Wawa at the old Bally's Fitness location.
The construction of a new "Super" Wawa at the former Bally’s Fitness location in Willow Grove has stirred up some controversy in the township. There seems to be a difference in opinion among residents of those who support it, and those who feel it will bring headaches to the township. Some residents strongly opposed the plan by making their voices heard at the recent Planning Agency meeting, but any effort to try and revamp the designs and construction were shot down. Upper Moreland Township will spend $3,200 on metal fencing to help prevent falls at park.
Upper Moreland Township has approved the purchase of metal fencing at Veterans Memorial Park in an effort to increase safety at the streabank area. Commissioners made a motion to purchase 64 lineal feet of permanent metal fencing that will cost a total of $3,200 ($50 per lineal foot). At the Parks and Rec meeting in February, Commissioner Kevin Spearing said he wanted to be “creative” to explore ways around having to buy fencing. One idea was to plant bushes and shrubbery as a protection guard. Burt P. Ludin pleaded guilty to three felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and providing explicit sexual materials to minors.
An Upper Moreland man was sentenced Monday to 17 to 34 years in prison for sexually molesting three boys from 2001 through 2005. Burt P. Ludin, 52, who used to reside on the 100 block of Krewson Terrace, pleaded guilty to three felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 13 and providing explicit sexual materials to minors. The three boys were between the ages of 11 and 15 at the time of the incidents, according to court documents. The first of a string of incidents was reported to Upper Dublin Police in 2010 when a 19-year-old claimed he was molested on multiple occasions when he was 11-years-old. According to sources, a man was taken to the hospital and a woman is in custody following a domestic dispute.
Multiple sources are reporting that a woman is in custody and a man was sent to the hospital following a domestic dispute in Upper Moreland. Police are currently at the scene investigating the incident. According to ABC.com, the incident occurred at the Wellington Apartment Complex on the 2500 block of Horsham Road. This is the same location where a father was charged in the death of his 2-month-old child on Feb. 25. Phillyburbs.com is reporting the incident was a stabbing, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
