Is 'Super' Wawa Wanted in Willow Grove?

Many residents have made their opinions known on whether or not they support the 'Super' Wawa at the old Bally's Fitness location.

The construction of a new "Super" Wawa at the former Bally’s Fitness location in Willow Grove has stirred up some controversy in the township. There seems to be a difference in opinion among residents of those who support it, and those who feel it will bring headaches to the township. Some residents strongly opposed the plan by making their voices heard at the recent Planning Agency meeting, but any effort to try and revamp the designs and construction were shot down. Many Patch readers commented on the story. So what’s your opinion? Leave a comment and vote in the poll below. Those in favor of the Wawa are saying things like: pat polichetti 9:26 pm on Monday, April 1, 2013 Build it. Hatboro was stupid and didn't want it. THEIR loss is …

Well, Goodman owns that turnpike land now. And, B&N, Hallmark, Best Nails and HairCuttery are also long-term renters. It has nothing to do with a backyard, yours or mine, but the best longterm choices for the Township. We agree about the bank..it is to be an emergency medical center, but the project has apparently gone off the rails. I was glad that the owners cleaned up the property recently, …   more ›

'Super' Wawa Faces Opposition in Upper Moreland

A motion to change the proposed development of Wawa at the old Bally's location was rejected.

Residents of Upper Moreland recently attended the Township Planning Agency meeting to voice their displeasure of the construction of the Wawa to be built at the old Bally’s Fitness location. Representatives from Goodman Properties presented their Land Development Plan that included 6 pumps, parking, and the beginning stages of building. Some residents spoke out and wanted the developers to drastically change their plans. Members of the Upper Moreland Democratic Committee, a group opposed to the Wawa plans, asked the board to reject the plan, but the Planning Agency didn't consider the request request. Nick Scull, who spoke for the UMDC made another request for the builder to revise the plans to reduce the footprint of the Wawa, but that …

No, they're NOT flying drones from there. The controls will be there. But the point was, there is going to be NO Horsham "town center". And there won't be an Upper Moreland "town center". So they should just build the Wawa.   more ›

Patrick-thanks for weighing in on the subject. We agree that having an 24/7 gas station is a bonus for those of us who work long/odd/non-traditional hours. However, not in our downtown. That area was designated for zoning as a Town Center, eliminating drive-thru businesses and gas stations. Having mixed use (retail and residences) would have brought in a greater revenue stream to the township. …   more ›

Chamber: We Support Wawa Construction

The Chamber of Commerce conducted a meeting regarding the new Wawa in the township.

Before the vote, each member expressed an opinion and the reasons behind it. Many felt that although the project was not perfect, it would be an asset to the community and would meet many of the aims of redevelopment. The vote carried by 14-1.  At the, November 7 meeting, developer Bruce Goodman explained plans for the project. He showed illustrations of the alterations that were made to more closely conform to the Upper Moreland and Montgomery County redevelopment plans for the area…

To All Above, This is exactly why I never comment on these things. Those were not accusations that I made. they were some things that I personaly have gone through with certain instances. People are blind to many things. There are many good people in theses township governments trying to do so many good things but lets face facts different types of favoritism exists and it goes on. Decision on Wawa Gas Station Coming on Nov. 13

The Board of Commissioners recently agreed to set up a hearing on whether or not to change the township zoning code of Town Center.

The issue over a new Wawa gas station has divided the township and its residents over the last couple of months, but soon enough there will be a decision one way or the other if it will be allowed to be built. After much deliberating between the township commissioners at Monday's meeting, a hearing date of Nov. 13 was set to determine if the township will change its zoning code to allow construction. The land that Goodman Properties wishes to build on is currently zoned Town Center and does not allow gas stations. Some Commissioners who are opposed to a new Wawa maintain that by amending the zoning code it could have a negative impact on the township and surrounding businesses. New projects like this seem to be happening in a lot of …
