Upper Moreland High School Senior Signs to WCU Baseball

Robert Knox, four-year varsity starter at UMHS, signed a letter of intent to play baseball at West Chester University.

In early May, Upper Moreland High School senior Robert Knox signed his letter of intent to play baseball at  West Chester University. Robert is a four-year varsity starter in the outfield and as a pitcher. He has been a member of two Conference Championship teams and a District Championship team. In this, his senior year, he leads the team in runs scored with 21. He is currently batting .341 with 11 RBI's. As a junior, Robert led the team in batting (.458) and runs scored (24) while compiling an on-base percentage of .536.  He has been a First Team Suburban One League award winner for two consecutive years, and as a member of the Carpenter Cup Team, he hit a home run at Citizens Bank Park.  Information courtesy of Upper Moreland School …

UMHS Boys Baseball Enters Semi-Final Round of PIAA District One Playoffs

The Upper Moreland High School Varsity Baseball team moves past Marple Newtown High School to take on Pottstown High School, May 23 at 4 p.m.

The Upper Moreland High School UMHS Boys Varsity Baseball team will head to the semi-final round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District One Playoffs. According to an announcement by the Upper Moreland School District, the Bears defeated Marple Newtown High School, 12-0, while playing at the new "Field of Dreams," located behind the Upper Moreland High School stadium. The announcement stated, UMHS junior Charlie Hooker pitched four shut-out innings and junior Tommy Robinson finished the game. Senior Nick Corbett was 3 for 3, junior Pat Driscoll hit a key double to drive in a run in the second inning, which led to nine runs scored with two outs. UMHS Boys Baseball Enters Round One of PIAA District One Playoffs

The May 21 game will be played against Marple Newtown High School at the new 'Field of Dreams.'

The Upper Moreland High School Boys Varisty Baseball Team will play Marple Newtown High School, Tuesday, May 21 at 4 p.m. The game is round one of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District One Playoffs. According to SuburbanOneSports.com, Upper Moreland Boys Varisity has earned an undefeated season as a AAA Class team (9-0) in the Suburban One League American Conference. The  May 21 game will be played at the new "Field of Dreams," located behind the Upper Moreland High School stadium.

Upper Moreland May Student of the Month

The Upper Moreland Student of the Month is sponsored by the High School faculty and Willow Grove Rotary Club.

The following information is courtesy of Upper Moreland School District: Upper Moreland High School senior Lynn Yip received the May Student of the Month Award from Willow Grove Rotary President, Mr. John Douglass.  The Student of the Month award is sponsored by the High School’s faculty and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence and service. At the High School, Lynn is a member of the National Honor Society, German Honor Society. Jazz Band, and the GAPP Program. Outside of school Lynn volunteers her time teaching piano at the Leopold Mozart Academy in Elkins Park.  Lynn is an accomplished pianist and cellist. Lynn plans to attend Temple in the fall and will major in music and German.

UMHS and Eastern Student Selected as SkillsUSA State Representative

Sarah Welch is a junior at Upper Moreland High School and an Eastern Center for Arts and Technology Commercial Art student.

Sarah Welch has been selected as a new SkillsUSA Pennsylania State officer for the 2013-2014 school Year. Sarah is an Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (Eastern) Commerical Art student and a junior at Upper Moreland High School. According to an Upper Moreland School District press release, Sarah has been an active member of SkillsUSA, attending the Career and Technical Student Organization(CTSO) Fall Leadership convention, as well as competing in local level competitions. During such competitions, Sarah placed third in Prepared Speech and first in both Job Interview and Photography. She is a member of the Gay Straight Alliance and Cardio Club at UMHS, and has maintained Distinguished Honor Roll throughout her High School career. After…

Upper Moreland School District Honors Student Musicians and Athletes

In an unprecedented move, the district organized a special recognitions program to honor the many student achievements this year.

The 2013 Upper Moreland School District’s (UMSD) Special Recognitions Program was held on the evening of April 30, honoring nearly 50 student musicians and athletes and over 100 cheering families and members of the district in the audience. UMSD superintendent Dr. Robert Milrod provided opening remarks for the event. He said the district’s Recognition Program has been consecutively held for the last decade, as student athletes and musicians who achieve at the division, league or state levels are honored before the Upper Moreland School Board. “However, this winter and spring, to see our students achieve so much at such high levels, we outgrew the board room,” Milrod said, widely smiling. Upper Moreland Booster Club Looking for Pancake Breakfast Volunteers

The Upper Moreland Booster Club helps raise funds for the district’s student athletes.

The Upper Moreland Booster Club’s spring Pancake Breakfast will take place May 5 at the Upper Moreland High School cafeteria, located at 3000 Terwood Road in Willow Grove. The breakfast, which goes from 9 a.m. to noon, will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet of: Lisa Driscoll, Booster Club president, spoke at the April 30 school district Special Recognitions Program, where over 40 students were honored for their achievements throughout the year. She noted that the Booster Club helps the student athletes toward those achievements by setting up fundraising events, such as the pancake breakfasts. Upper Moreland School District holds Ninth-Annual Envirothon

The Upper Moreland School District's Envirothon helps inspire youth toward a life-time of making environmentally conscious decisions.

Over 200 second-grade Upper Moreland students took to the filed in front of the high school, where they eagerly awaited the start of the ninth-annual Upper Moreland School District Envirothon. The Envirothon, which took place throughout the morning and afternoon of April 19, featured  eight science-education stations. The stations were arranged throughout the field, as well as along the creek by Fitzwatetown Road. eBay offers a look at the Township's history.

Any buyer can get their hands on a piece of Upper Moreland history. And, it will only set you back $15.30. While skimming through the wide variety of products offered up for auction on eBay.com, you'll find among the relics a handful of Upper Moreland High School yearbooks. Dating from 1929 and 1930, these special glimpses into the township's past are up for auction through the first week of May.
