A public hearing will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Township Municipal Building to discuss a variety of items on the agenda. The subject of the new Wawa at Easton and York Roads has caused a lot of discussion for local residents, and tonight those people will get to express their opinions on the matter. The Board of Commissioners will also discuss the redevelopment plan of Willow Crossing and other areas of the township as well. The following message is from the Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce: Following the discussion on the proposed Willow Grove Wawa at the annual meeting of the Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber’s Board of Directors met and voted to support the project. Before the vote, each member expressed an opinion and the reasons behind it. Many felt that although the project was not perfect, it would be an asset to the community and would meet many of the aims of redevelopment. The vote carried by 14-1. At the, November 7 meeting, developer Bruce Goodman explained plans for the project. He showed illustrations of the alterations that were made to more closely conform to the Upper Moreland and Montgomery County redevelopment plans for the area…

A discussion on the proposed WaWa will highlight the annual meeting of the Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce and Developer Bruce Goodman and Commissioner Joe Lavalle, who chairs the township’s Community Development committee will answer questions about the proposal. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 30 at the VFW Post 3612, 305 W. Moreland Ave. in Willow Grove, at noon. The meeting is open to the public. The Board of Commissioners recently agreed to set up a hearing on whether or not to change the township zoning code of Town Center.
The issue over a new Wawa gas station has divided the township and its residents over the last couple of months, but soon enough there will be a decision one way or the other if it will be allowed to be built. After much deliberating between the township commissioners at Monday's meeting, a hearing date of Nov. 13 was set to determine if the township will change its zoning code to allow construction. The land that Goodman Properties wishes to build on is currently zoned Town Center and does not allow gas stations. Some Commissioners who are opposed to a new Wawa maintain that by amending the zoning code it could have a negative impact on the township and surrounding businesses. Patrick-thanks for weighing in on the subject. We agree that having an 24/7 gas station is a bonus for those of us who work long/odd/non-traditional hours. However, not in our downtown. That area was designated for zoning as a Town Center, eliminating drive-thru businesses and gas stations. Having mixed use (retail and residences) would have brought in a greater revenue stream to the township. …   more ›
